From its humble beginnings as a grass strip with a few huts back in 1935, Newcastle Airport has grown to become the region’s biggest airport celebrating its 75^th birthday on July 26 this year.

The airport facility opened on July 26, 1935, in Woolsington by Secretary of State for Air, Sir Phillip Cunliffe-Lister, cost £35,000 to build and consisted of a grass runway, clubhouse, hangar, workshops and a garage.
